Night Game Drive in Lake Manyara National Park

Night Game Drive in Lake Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara is an excellent spot for a night game drive due to its diverse ecosystems. The area is said to feature 11 different ecosystems, making it a rich hub for various species of animals and plants, with the lake, Rift Valley cliffs, groundwater forest, and Ngorongoro Highlands all nearby.

There are many elusive creatures that are rarely seen during the day but are highly active at night. With some luck, you might catch a glimpse of genets, civet cats, and porcupines. It will be easier to spot the large hippos, which can often be seen grazing beneath trees along the roadside. Leopards roam the park frequently, and while sightings aren’t guaranteed, they are relatively common. Lions tend to be more active at night, providing a chance to observe them engaging in activities beyond simply lounging in the shade.

Night game drive programme:

Your drive begins around 8:00 PM as you venture into the dense groundwater forest of Lake Manyara. From there, you’ll make your way toward the lake, following the Simba River to the hippo pools. Afterward, you’ll return to the forest and head back to the park gate, arriving around 10:30 PM. This night safari offers a unique perspective of the park and its wildlife.
