On the way, you will pass many Masai in their colourful dress walking on the roadside, riding bicycles, herding cattle and driving donkey carts. Tarangire National Park, well known for its large elephant herds, is also host to a multitude of other animals. From the open roof of your safari jeep you will see seasonal swamps, savanna and the life giving Tarangire River. You will see zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, elephant and giraffe, to name but a few. It is possible you will see lion stalking prey or leopards watching, relaxing in the trees above. After your extensive game drive, you will drive to your accommodation for dinner and overnight.

Day 3 Central Serengeti National Park (Seronera)

Along the way we’ll pass through the mist-shrouded rainforests of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area where you might be lucky enough to see baboons, or even leopards and elephants in the dense undergrowth. Passing through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, you will be able to see the breath-taking Ngorongoro Crater before traveling onwards to the Serengeti National Park, which you will reach by midday. The Serengeti National Park is the largest park in Tanzania with diverse landscapes and habitats, such as grassy plains, swamps, lakes, savannah and mountains. After an extensive game drive, you will drive to your accommodation where you will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4 North Serengeti following the migration

In the morning, we undertake our en route game drive to the Northern region of the Serengeti. Stretching from Seronera for about 100km, the Northern Serengeti is a gentle rolling countryside broken by small rivers, occasional hills, and kopjes. Here resides a multitudinous permanent population of wildlife, with also very striking geological occurrences such as the beautiful Lobo Kopje. The Northern Serengeti is an interesting and varied country that is far from the park’s main entry point in the south hence receiving fewer visitors.

The migration is found in this area during August and we may with luck witness the most spectacular of river crossings as the herd attempt to cross the Mara River and avoid the strong currents and hungry crocodiles. After a full day, we head for our accommodation where we enjoy dinner and our night of sleep under the magnificent African sky out upon the ‘Endless Plain’

    From August to October

Mid-range: Mara Heritage Camp Meals & Drink: All meals included, Drinks not included

    Day 5 North Serengeti

After an early breakfast, you will head out to make the most of the day. There is a chance you may see the animals crossing the Mara River. Hundreds of thousands of desperate wildebeest gather together on the banks of the river, gazing wistfully across the turbulent water at the green grass on the other side but no animal will make a move. All it takes is one brave wildebeest to take the literal plunge and, then, all follow! The animals that do successfully avoid the awaiting crocodile jaws and make it over the river are rewarded with the lush green grazing grass of the Masai Mara.

From August to OctoberMid-range: Mara Heritage Camp Meals & Drink: All meals included, Drinks not included

    Day 6 Central Serengeti

After breakfast, you will return to Seronera with further opportunities to experience the incredible wildlife and natural beauty of the Serengeti..Apart from the migrating herds, we may have the opportunity to see the resident predators, leopard, cheetah, and lion, fulfilling their role in the circle of life. After an extensive game drive we head for our Accommodation for a hearty dinner and another night by the fire of relaxation and conversation under the sweeping majesty of the star bright African night out upon the ‘Endless Plain’.

After breakfast, you will embark upon another incredible game drive in The Serengeti before travelling to the Ngorongoro Crater. Day 8 Ngorongoro Crater

Very early in the morning after an early breakfast, we descend down onto the crater floor for a day of wildlife viewing in one of the most incredible places on Earth where the animals roam freely through the unfenced reserves offering us an uninterrupted game viewing experience. The Caldera was formed about three million years ago with the massive explosion of a volcano that rivalled Kilimanjaro in height. It is 610 m deep and covers roughly 260 square kilometres. It is an enclosed ecosystem. The word Ngorongoro represents the sound of the bells that the Maasai cows wear around their necks. It is one of the best places in Africa to view the big five, as well as wildebeest, gazelle, reedbuck, and many others, along with about 500 bird species. You will stop for a picnic lunch near the hippo lake and in the afternoon, you will ascendup the steep road out of the crater. You will overnight in the nearby town of Karatu.

Day 9 Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha
After breakfast, you will drive to our final destination on this epic safari – Lake Manyara National Park. This is a relatively small but diverse park, 120km west of Arusha. It is so named for the shallow salt lake that covers about seventy percent of the surface area, flooding and drying with the seasons and home to thousands of flamingo and in the extraordinary region of 500 other bird species. On your exploration of the park you will see monkey, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, elephant and, with some luck, lions lounging in the trees. The park is known for its diverse landscapes; not only open grassy plains, but also primate-filled woodlands and baobab dotted cliffs. After lunch, we head back to Arusha where we will arrive in the late afternoon.

Your Tour Tamu Afrcan Safari guide will collect you from your accommodation after breakfast. This morning, you will drive to Tarangire National Park. The transit drive is approximately two and a half hours on good tarmac roads. The Park is named after the Tarangire River which runs through it. The Park is well known for its elephant families, which can often be seen congregating by the river. You may also see giraffe, bushbuck, and hartebeest. These animals are closely followed by a range of predators, including lions and leopards. There are more breeding species of birds found in Tarangire than anywhere else on the planet! The huge and ancient Baobab trees can be seen here. Some of them are said to have lived for more than a thousand years.Lunch will be at a picnic site inside the Park. Day 5 Central Serengeti to Southern Serengeti & Ndutu

After breakfast, you will wend your way through the Serengeti towards Ndutu, stopping off to experience more wonder on the way! Whilst it boasts abundant wildlife, it is perhaps best known for the annual Great Migration. Vast numbers of wildebeest; zebra and antelope move in an annual pattern, constantly seeking fresh grazing. The migration can be found during any given month; you just need to know where to look! At this time of year, the Migration is normally in Southern Serengeti / Ndutu (Ndutu is actually part of Ngorongoro Conservation Area). One of the main features of this area is Lake Ndutu. It is an alkaline lake (like most of the other Rift Valley Lakes) and is a treasured source of water.

Overnight will be a Mid-Range seasonal Tented Camp.

    Day 6 Ndutu

After a hearty breakfast, you will head out to enjoy a full day’s game drive in Ndutu. You will explore the range of different habitats found here including swamps, woodland and savannah. With luck, you will see vast crowds of wildebeest, zebra and antelope, sometimes stretching to the horizon. The sound of the wildebeest gently mooing is hauntingly beautiful.During a short time frame (normally in February), many of the female wildebeest give birth to their young, dropping over half a million young in this incredible act of synchronized birthing. The grass provides little cover and the young are easy pickings for a variety of predators (cheetah, lion, hyena, and leopard). Wildebeest calves can run minutes after they are born and within 3 days they are normally strong enough to keep up with the herd. After a full day’s exploration, you will return to your Tented Camp in time for dinner.

    Accommodation

Mid-range:: Serengeti Heritage NdutuMeals & Drink: All meals included, Drinks not included

Day 7 Ndutu to Ngorongoro Crater

This morning, you will gently wend your way through Ngorongoro Conservation Area, seeing more animals only the way (it is common to see a journey of giraffe on the lush slopes). You should reach the Crater by lunch time.
When you first see Ngorongoro Crater, it looks like a forgotten world. Concealed by the steep volcanic walls is a pristine wilderness including sweeping savannah, pockets of acacia woodland and glistening lakes and swamps. The Crater was created when a large volcano exploded and collapsed in on itself two to three million years ago. The drive down into the Crater is an adventure in itself and when you reach the Crater floor, you quickly find yourself amongst large numbers of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, and more than 500 bird species. The Crater provides you with the best chance of seeing the endangered black rhino, which can sometimes be spotted in the open grasslands.
After an afternoon game drive, you will drive to your accommodation in Karatu.

    Accommodation

Mid-range: Eileen’s Tree InnMeals & Drink: All meals included, Drinks not included

Day 8 Lake Manyara to Arusha

This morning, you will drive to Lake Manyara National Park. Your final destination on this epic safari! Manyara is a small but diverse park 120km west of Arusha. Everything you’ll see here is on a different scale. It is both compact (this is one of the narrowest parks in Africa) and epic (the Great Rift Escarpment towers over Lake Manyara’s western boundary). The park’s namesake is a shallow, salt lake. It covers a large area of the park, flooding and drying with the seasons and is home to thousands of wading birds (including flamingos and over 500 other bird species). You may see baboon and elephant in the park’s thick evergreen forest, and watch for the tree-climbing lions that have become famous throughout Africa. You will enjoy a picnic lunch inside the Park. After your game drive, you will be dropped off at a place of your choosing e.g. Arusha, Kilimanjaro Airport or Arusha Airport. We hope you have enjoyed your adventure with Tour Tamu African Safari!

There is something quite magical about lying in bed, listening to the sounds of the birds outside. What a way to start your day! Central Serengeti (Seronera) is the heart of the park, where you will find some of the best game viewing at any time of year. Large populations of hippo, giraffe, antelope, elephant and zebra call this area home throughout the year. Big cats including lion, leopard and cheetah can also be found here. Seronera features a vast range of diverse ecosystems including grasslands that stretch out to the horizon and acacia forests.

The banks of the Seronera River are lined with lush palm trees, sausage trees and towering yellow fever acacias. The area around the river is buzzing with different bird species and large flocks of black headed herons, marabou storks and various birds of prey. The Retima Hippo Pool can also be found in Seronera. Today, it is possible to do early morning and late afternoon game drives, returning to the Camp for lunch.

Otherwise, a full day’s game drive with picnic lunch in the Park.

Ngorongoro Crater was formed around three million years ago when a volcano (thought to be larger than Kilimanjaro) exploded and collapsed in on itself. It has a diameter of approximately 19km (12 miles) and boasts one of the densest large mammal populations in the whole of the African continent. Over 30,000 animals (including the endangered black Rhino) call this unique place home. After a full afternoon inside the Crater, you will drive to your accommodation in Karatu.

    Day: 2 Tarangire National Park

Your Tour Tamu Safari guide will collect you from your accommodation after breakfast. You will then drive to Tarangire National Park; your first taster of what Tanzania has to offer on this luxury safari. The Park is named after the Tarangire River which runs through it. This ‘river of warthogs’ is the only source of water for wildlife in the region during the dry season. One of the largest National Parks in Tanzania, it is famous for large herds of elephant families, around 500 species of birds and the fascinating baobab or ‘upside down’ tree. It is also known as the ‘Tree of Life’ due to its mythical powers that some cultures believe it has. Lunch will be at a picnic site inside the Park. After your game drive, you will transit to your luxury accommodation in Karatu.

    Day 3 Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, you will drive up into the cooler regions of Ngorongoro Conservation Area. When you first see Ngorongoro Crater, it looks like a forgotten world. Concealed by the steep volcanic walls is a pristine wilderness including sweeping savannah, pockets of acacia woodland, and glistening lakes and swamps. The Crater was created when a large volcano exploded and collapsed in on itself two to three million years ago and it covers an area of 260 km². The Crater is famous for both its geological delights and for being a natural reserve that is home to some of the densest large mammal populations in the whole of the African continent. After you descend into the Crater, you quickly find yourself amongst large numbers of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, and more than 500 bird species. The Crater provides you with the best chance of seeing the endangered black rhino.

Lunch will be at a picnic site on the Crater Floor. After your game drive, you will return to your luxury accommodation in Karatu.

Day 4 Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha

After breakfast, you will drive to Lake Manyara National Park, the final Park on your luxury safari. You may see baboon and elephant in the park’s thick evergreen forest and watch for the tree-climbing lions that have become famous throughout Africa.

Picnic lunch in the park. After your game drive, you will say a fond farewell to your Guide and will be dropped off at a place of your choosing e.g. Arusha Town, Kilimanjaro Airport or Arusha Airport. We hope you have enjoyed your adventure with Tour Tamu Safari!
